The Oncology Center is the first and only radiation oncology center among private hospitals in Upper Myanmar. It was launched in March 2024 and offers both chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Our hospital is equipped with the advanced Elekta Linear Accelerator machine (manufactured in Sweden), and all treatment plans and protocols adhere to internationally accredited IAEA and AAPM standards.
Quality assurance (QA) checks are performed daily, weekly, monthly, and annually. Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy, and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) are used to accurately target radiation based on the localization of the tumor, using imaging to adjust the patient’s position. A CT simulator (Aquilion LB model – Canon brand, 32-slice CT scanner) is also available at the MH Oncology Center.
Chemotherapy drugs are stored in a chemo cabinet and administered intravenously by nurses in the chemotherapy day unit. The nurses take blood samples, provide your chemotherapy, monitor you for side effects, and offer support and information to you and your family. They strive to maintain a calm atmosphere and ensure a comfortable environment.
The unit is usually furnished with recliner chairs and some beds for resting. A relative or friend can typically stay with you during your treatment. Volunteers may also be present to offer drinks or snacks as needed. After your chemotherapy, nurses may give you medications to take home or provide a prescription for the hospital pharmacy.
